Mazzy Shimmer Mosaic is a chunky reclaimed-wood wall piece named for the smaller, sassier half of “MCatz”—a ten‑pound cat with all the attitude. Built from hand‑cut wood blocks stained black and layered with blue‑green‑purple shimmer, it reads as modern abstract art first and a cat story second, making it a bold tribute for animal people who don’t want “cute cat art.”
Chunky Murphy Mosaic is a big-hearted reclaimed wood wall piece named in honor of our larger-than-life cat, Murphy. Built from hand-cut reclaimed wood blocks with shimmering blue-green highlights and a hidden tree silhouette, it’s a chunky, sculptural artwork that carries a lot of story and heart into whatever home it lands in.
Take a behind‑the‑scenes tour of the new spring pieces we’ve been creating at MCatz Creations, featuring colorful mosaics, reclaimed wood art, and bright floral designs now available in our shop.
Apparently I forgot this blog existed for a minute, but the studio definitely didn’t stop. This catch‑up post is a little tour of what we’ve been building lately—coastal reclaimed‑wood walls, rustic florals, bright abstract canvases, and shimmery little mermaid bowls—plus ideas for custom pieces if you want something made just for your space.
Emerald Tides brings together my love of ombre, geometric woodwork, and the Shou Sugi Ban technique—all in one unapologetically green-and-blue mosaic. This post walks through every messy, experimental step: from cutting and arranging wood pieces to burning, painting, and glittering up carved “rivers.” If you’ve ever wondered what happens when optimism meets a table full of tiny wood bits, you’re in the right place!
Step behind the scenes of my very first solo frame project with “Starlit Showgirl”—a vibrant, imperfect, and proudly handmade piece inspired by the bold Orange Era sweeping art and pop culture. From charring wood to layering pink, purple, and orange hues, this post captures the messy magic, lessons learned, and the excitement of creating something uniquely my own.
A pint-sized unicorn, a dash of creative spontaneity, and a healthy dose of glitter—this project proves that even simple ideas can turn into magical decor. See how a little experimenting led to an even better end result, with sparkle sealed in for good.
Discover the step-by-step (and sparkle-by-sparkle) journey behind my “Crystal Tides” art pair, inspired by my husband’s dazzling “Crystal Aurora.” From blank canvas to glitter explosion, follow along with photos, creative confessions, and a few laughs as I turn paint, crystals, and glass into two vibrant, textured works ready for their Etsy debut!

Ever wonder what happens when you hand a block of pine, some power tools, and a bit of magenta paint to a guy with a clever streak? My husband’s latest creation for mcatz creations brings humor and handiwork together in the Magenta Mirage tealight holder. From raw wood to dazzling table centerpiece (with a few jokes and a scorch mark or two along the way), here’s the story behind the sparks and shimmer.
